India and Netherlands Strengthen Semiconductor and Supply Chain Cooperation During Ministerial Visit

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal has concluded a series of high-level diplomatic and industrial engagements in the Netherlands, targeting expanded bilateral economic cooperation, technology partnerships, and cross-border supply chain integration. The discussions focused on identifying strategic investment opportunities across advanced industrial sectors, with particular emphasis on microelectronics, semiconductor technologies, logistics, and industrial hardware ecosystems.

During the visit, Minister Goyal held bilateral talks with Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Sjoerd Sjoerdsma, Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Heleen Herbert, and King’s Commissioner of the Province of North Holland Arthur van Dijk. The Minister also engaged with members of the Dutch House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation and the Senate Committee on European Affairs to exchange perspectives on bilateral trade flows and the broader economic partnership between India and the European Union.

A focal segment of the official itinerary was the India–Netherlands Business Forum, co-chaired by Minister Goyal and Minister Sjoerdsma. Gathering approximately 200 representatives from Indian and Dutch industry, the forum examined commercial opportunities arising from the India-EU Free Trade Agreement, focusing on market access, bilateral capital deployment, and enterprise collaboration. Dialogue during the forum emphasized the complementary nature of both economies, underscoring how structured private-sector collaboration can translate trade pacts into concrete manufacturing investments and resilient supply chains linking India with continental Europe.

On the industrial front, Minister Goyal conducted one-to-one meetings with chief executive officers representing prominent Dutch enterprises active in semiconductor technology, electronics, logistics, energy, and industrial platforms. In addition, the Minister addressed a dedicated roundtable organized by the Indian Embassy in The Hague alongside HSBC Netherlands, convening CXOs from 15 major Dutch corporations to review India’s operating environment, infrastructure modernization, and commercial partnership frameworks.

The bilateral engagements carry direct implications for the global semiconductor and electronics manufacturing landscape. The Netherlands anchors the world’s most critical node in semiconductor production machinery, housing leading-edge photolithography, precision metrology, and advanced packaging equipment suppliers. As India expands its domestic wafer fabrication footprint and outsourced semiconductor assembly and test facilities under the India Semiconductor Mission, establishing direct supply links with Dutch tool builders, specialty engineering houses, and materials firms is essential for stable tool procurement and operational scale.

Addressing international media representatives, Minister Goyal highlighted the Netherlands’ vital position as a gateway to European markets and reaffirmed India’s commitment to building durable economic and technological corridors with the European Union.
