EHT Semi Embeds Bird RF Measurement into Power Delivery Systems for Advanced Fabs

EHT Semi has embedded radio frequency (RF) measurement technology from Bird directly into its semiconductor power delivery platforms, including its Orion™ Direct RF™ System and tailored waveform generators. The integration introduces embedded, NIST-traceable probes that serve as the primary source of in-line measurement for RF power, voltage, current, and load impedance. By incorporating calibrated instrumentation directly into front-end power equipment, the collaborative architecture creates a unified measurement baseline that bridges equipment manufacturing, system qualification, and live production runs within wafer fabrication cleanrooms.

In advanced front-end wafer manufacturing, plasma-based processes such as atomic layer deposition and high-aspect-ratio reactive ion etching operate under strict process windows. Transistor scaling and high-density 3D multi-layer architectures make sub-nanometer geometries vulnerable to slight variations in plasma sheath dynamics and chamber impedance. Even nominal discrepancies between factory calibration readings and fab-floor delivery can cause wafer-to-wafer non-uniformity and yield degradation. The integrated hardware design addresses this problem by maintaining power regulation within 2% of the programmed setpoint across rapid, dynamic load transitions. This dynamic control provides the response speed and operational stability needed to sustain stable plasma environments under fluctuating process recipes.

The technological union establishes continuity across the full equipment lifecycle. EHT Semi Chief Executive Officer Timothy Ziemba emphasized that advanced process control depends on knowing that the power measured during initial system calibration matches the metrics recorded during volume wafer runs. Having a consistent reference standard across development and manufacturing allows engineering teams to identify chamber drift and calibrate plasma tools without secondary external meters. Bird Chief Executive Officer Mike Simpson noted that embedding calibrated probes into power generators gives both equipment builders and process engineers dependable data continuity across production cycles.

Beyond basic operational stabilization, the hardware integration unlocks new capabilities for smart manufacturing and tool analytics. Semiconductor fabricators will receive direct access to the underlying electrical data streams generated by the embedded probes. High-fidelity measurements of voltage, current, and dynamic phase angles provide the foundational inputs required to train predictive maintenance models and run real-time plasma diagnostic platforms.

As semiconductor manufacturing shifts toward adaptive digital factory frameworks, equipment-level transparency becomes a critical competitive factor. Access to high-resolution, NIST-traceable power data enables process engineers to implement AI-driven closed-loop control schemes, accelerating recipe optimization and reducing engineering downtime. By standardizing measurement hardware within the power subsystem, EHT Semi and Bird are establishing a reliable hardware-level data foundation for advanced process control in next-generation wafer fabs.
