Leading Chinese memory chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) announced it has deployed its fifth-generation technology platform, dubbed G5, into full mass production. The breakthrough significantly narrows the technological gap between the domestic champion and global DRAM frontrunners Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.

Announced at the World Manufacturing Convention in Hefei, CXMT stated that the G5 platform delivers a 50% jump in storage density over its prior generation, substantially increasing the number of good dies produced per wafer while optimizing energy efficiency and manufacturing costs. By employing quadruple-exposure techniques, CXMT achieved an 11.95nm threshold, bringing its manufacturing process close to the cutting-edge 10nm-class nodes operated by South Korean rivals.

Alongside the platform rollout, CXMT showcased two mass-produced 24-gigabit (Gb) LPDDR5X DRAM chips built on the G5 architecture. Designed for mobile devices and portable electronics, the high-speed, low-power components deliver a 50% capacity boost compared to the company’s previous generation. CXMT confirmed the line is engineered specifically to meet the high bandwidth and density requirements of mid-to-high-end smartphones running generative AI workloads.

The company is seeing accelerated commercial adoption across major Chinese handset makers. ZTE-backed Nubia recently launched its flagship NaviX Ultra smartphone—integrating ByteDance’s Doubao AI assistant—powered by CXMT’s LPDDR5X chips. Other leading domestic manufacturers, including Xiaomi and Transsion, have also integrated CXMT’s mobile memory portfolio.

The production ramp caps rapid commercial gains for CXMT, which listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in July to become China’s most valuable listed tech enterprise. The chipmaker originally kicked off earlier-generation LPDDR5X production in May 2025.

According to TrendForce data, CXMT’s global DRAM revenue share climbed to 9.5% in the second quarter, up from 7.6% in the first quarter. While Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron still retain the majority of global supply, CXMT’s G5 deployment marks a major advance in domestic self-reliance for advanced memory.
