Burckhardt Subsidiary SYCC Wins Diaphragm Compressor Orders for Semiconductor Hydrogen Facilities

Shenyang Yuanda Compressor Co., Ltd. (SYCC), an operating subsidiary of Swiss reciprocating compressor specialist Burckhardt Compression, has secured multiple commercial orders for high-pressure diaphragm compressor units dedicated to hydrogen infrastructure in the semiconductor sector. Procured through a leading multinational industrial gas supplier, the compressor systems will be integrated into gas handling facilities supplying high-volume wafer fabrication plants in Taiwan and South Korea. The deployment marks Burckhardt Compression’s strategic entry into the front-end semiconductor processing supply chain, applying proven gas-handling hardware to microelectronics manufacturing.

The compressor packages are engineered to boost hydrogen gas pressure directly downstream of on-site purification trains, ensuring stable, contamination-free delivery of ultra-high-purity (UHP) hydrogen into fab distribution loops. As sub-2nm transistor scaling and three-dimensional multi-die packaging accelerate, process gases must satisfy stringent baseline purity levels to prevent line-yield defects. Hydrogen acts as a vital process medium across several critical front-end fabrication stages, functioning as a carrier and reducing agent during high-temperature epitaxial silicon growth,s urface passivation annealing, and chemical vapor deposition. Furthermore, extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography scanners utilize continuous flows of high-velocity hydrogen gas within exposure chambers to react with and clear tin debris generated by high-power plasma light sources, shielding sensitive multilayer projection optics from reflective contamination.

Maintaining gas integrity at these microelectronic tolerances requires specialized compression equipment capable of preventing lubricant carryover and ambient atmosphere infiltration. Standard piston compressors risk trace oil contamination that can poison vacuum chambers and degrade device performance. SYCC’s diaphragm compressor units utilize flexible, metallic gas-tight membranes and oil-free compression chambers, creating an absolute physical seal between hydraulic actuation fluid and the process stream. This architecture allows the compressors to achieve high discharge pressures while preserving parts-per-billion gas purity, full containment, and steady delivery under dynamic fab load profiles.

The capital awards follow sustained capacity buildouts across East Asian semiconductor manufacturing centers. Driven by hyperscale artificial intelligence hardware deployment, data center compute expansion, and high-performance computing demand, major foundries and integrated device manufacturers are constructing multi-gigawatt fab complexes that require scaled utility pipelines. Delivering tens of thousands of normal cubic meters of electronic gases requires robust compression stations situated along both on-site generation plants and bulk transport interfaces.

For the broader semiconductor industry, the deal highlights how cleanroom utility infrastructure and sub-tier gas equipment underpin global fab expansions. Without reliable compression hardware to elevate purified gases to required operating pressures, advanced lithography and epitaxial toolsets cannot maintain steady manufacturing uptime. By securing multi-unit orders with a global industrial gas provider, Burckhardt Compression reinforces the upstream sub-tier supply corridor supplying critical process gases to the world’s most advanced memory and logic fabrication facilities.
