Building India’s Chip Infrastructure: Highlights from SEMICON India
Daanesh Nikorawala, Business Head, Fabtech

At SEMICON India, discussions centered on the critical infrastructure shaping the nation’s rapidly expanding semiconductor landscape. With over three decades of cleanroom engineering expertise, key solutions highlighted included specialized HVAC systems and modular pods designed for rapid deployment across chip fabrication, wafer testing, and packaging facilities. Insights from the event underscored overwhelmingly positive industry engagement, identified the primary hurdles in building a self-reliant domestic supply chain, and outlined a strategic vision to serve as a foundational partner in establishing world-class semiconductor manufacturing ecosystems.

Recent Interaction with Vaishali Chauhan and Daanesh Nikorawala, Business Head, Fabtech discussed the role of Fabtech Technologies in supporting India’s rapidly growing semiconductor ecosystem, focusing on the following key areas:

How has SEMICON India been for your company so far? What kind of response have you received from visitors and customers, and what are some of the key conversations happening at the event?

SEMICON India has been a very positive experience for us so far. We’ve seen strong interest from visitors, customers, and industry professionals, with many engaging conversations around our solutions, capabilities, and how we can support the evolving semiconductor ecosystem in India.

One of the most encouraging aspects has been the quality of the interactions. We’ve had meaningful discussions with both existing customers and new prospects, giving us an opportunity to better understand their requirements and explore potential areas for collaboration.

A key theme across many conversations has been the growth of semiconductor manufacturing and the increasing focus on building a strong, reliable, and self-sufficient ecosystem in India.

Overall, the response has been very encouraging, and SEMICON India has provided an excellent platform to connect with the industry and identify new opportunities for growth and collaboration.

What are you showcasing at SEMICON India, and what are some of the key solutions or developments you would like the industry to know about?

At SEMICON India, we were showcasing our expertise in designing and building complete cleanroom solutions for the semiconductor industry. Cleanrooms play a critical role across the semiconductor manufacturing process, including chip fabrication, wafer testing, and the preparation of specialized solutions and materials.

With more than three decades of experience in cleanroom design and construction, we showcased our capabilities in delivering high-quality, industry-specific cleanroom environments. As India’s semiconductor ecosystem continues to grow, we believe we are well positioned to contribute to this growth by providing the critical infrastructure required for advanced semiconductor manufacturing.

India’s semiconductor ecosystem is developing rapidly. What opportunities are you seeing in the Indian market, and where do you see the strongest potential for your company?

India’s semiconductor ecosystem is developing rapidly, and we see significant opportunities across the entire manufacturing and testing infrastructure. As semiconductor fabs, OSAT facilities, and supporting industries are being established, the demand for specialized infrastructure such as high-performance cleanrooms, precision HVAC systems, and modular solutions is also growing.

We see strong potential across our three key offerings. Our cleanroom solutions provide the controlled environments required for semiconductor manufacturing and testing, while our specialized HVAC solutions help maintain the stringent temperature, humidity, pressure, and air-quality conditions that these facilities demand. We are also seeing increasing interest in modular pods, which can offer flexibility, faster deployment, and controlled environments for specific processes and applications.

What are some of the key challenges you see in India’s semiconductor ecosystem today, and what role can industry players like your company play in addressing them?

One of the key challenges for India’s semiconductor ecosystem is building the supporting infrastructure and supply chain required to meet the stringent standards of semiconductor manufacturing. Semiconductor facilities require highly controlled environments, with precise control over air quality, temperature, humidity, contamination, and other critical parameters.

Another important challenge is developing the right ecosystem of experienced technology and infrastructure partners who understand the unique requirements of semiconductor manufacturing and can deliver at scale, while maintaining global quality standards.

This is where companies like us can play an important role.

By bringing our expertise, technology, and execution capabilities to the sector, we aim to support semiconductor companies in establishing reliable, high-quality manufacturing infrastructure in India and contribute to the country’s broader semiconductor growth story.

Looking ahead, how do you see the semiconductor industry in India evolving over the next few years, and what are your priorities for the Indian market?

We see the semiconductor industry in India entering an important phase of growth over the next few years. With increasing investments in semiconductor manufacturing, packaging, testing, and the development of a broader domestic ecosystem, India has the opportunity to build strong capabilities across the semiconductor value chain.

Our priority is to support this growth by providing the critical cleanroom infrastructure required for semiconductor manufacturing and associated processes. We aim to leverage our experience to deliver world-class, reliable, and scalable cleanroom solutions that meet the stringent requirements of the semiconductor industry.

Our ambition is simple: to be a trusted infrastructure partner in India’s semiconductor journey and help create the controlled environments that enable the next generation of semiconductor manufacturing in the country.
