The NX Group, operating under Nippon Express Holdings, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on strategic cooperation with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) during SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi. The bilateral agreement establishes an institutional framework between Japan’s largest freight forwarder and the nodal agency driving India’s microelectronics strategy to co-develop specialized semiconductor logistics infrastructure, optimize freight transit corridors, and address physical supply-chain challenges across the subcontinent.
As India accelerates commercial fab construction and outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) projects under the Semicon India Programme, establishing precision transport logistics has emerged as a fundamental operational requirement. Semiconductor cargo—spanning ultra-precise photolithography scanners, vibration-sensitive metrology tools, hazardous precursor chemicals, specialty gases, and fragile thinned silicon wafers—cannot be handled via standard general cargo supply chains. Transporting sub-nanometer-grade fabrication tools and volatile precursors requires strictly controlled environments, continuous multi-axis vibration dampening, real-time shock telemetry, and climate-controlled cleanroom transit containers.
Signed by Amitesh Kumar Sinha, CEO of ISM, and Katsuhito Kobayashi, Managing Director of Nippon Express (South Asia & Oceania), the partnership formalizes technical dialogue on establishing dedicated freight corridors and resolving cross-border customs bottlenecks for sensitive microelectronics equipment. The NX Group showcased end-to-end specialized capabilities covering multimodal air and ocean freight, temperature-controlled bonded warehousing, factory-gate delivery, cleanroom rigging, tool positioning, and secure transport for finished packaged devices.
The agreement comes as the Japanese logistics provider accelerates its infrastructure investments within India’s industrial corridors. To support regional wafer fabs and advanced packaging hubs, the NX Group is expanding its localized network, including plans to commission a dedicated semiconductor logistics hub in the Dholera Special Investment Region in Gujarat by 2027. Securing localized warehousing adjacent to major greenfield fab sites allows chipmakers to lower transit inventories and mitigate component shortages during tooling phases.
For India’s expanding microelectronics ecosystem, integrating international semiconductor logistics providers is vital to linking domestic production with global chip assembly networks. Cleanroom construction and tool installation milestones require coordinated import schedules and zero-defect transit handling. By collaborating directly with the India Semiconductor Mission to design dedicated supply chain frameworks, the NX Group is providing the logistics backbone required to support high-volume manufacturing across domestic fabs and packaging facilities.
